October was a busy month at South Berks, staring on 5th October with ‘Wear it Pink’ Day in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month., with members, supporters and visiting teams encouraged to wear anything pink for the day. There was also a bake-sale during the day, and the Barbie and Ken social in the evening, with prizes awarded for best costumes. Thanks to everybody’s generosity, we were able to raise an impressive £435 for Breast Cancer Now.
On October 12th Hospital Radio Reading spent the day broadcasting live from Cantley Park. This included live commentary of some action packed fames, and some club members making their radio debuts!
Last weekend saw the club showing support for the Royal British Legion, wearing poppies on our match shirts and observing a minutes silence before push-back.
Our quest for some silverware this season continues - the Men’s 1’s came through a tense 10 goal thriller against Fareham 2’s. Their next round features an exciting trip to Jersey, to be played on 4th January 2025. The Ladies 3’s were also victorious 1-0 in their first round fixture against Chertsey. They will face Cirencester 2’s in the next round (due to be played on 14th December). Sadly the Ladies 1’s and 2’s lost 4-0 and 4-3 respectively in their first round fixtures. However, new this year, they have moved into the plate competition. The Ladies 1’s will play Devonport Services 1’s next, while the Ladies 2’s will face off against Fleet & Ewshot 1’s. The Mixed Cup team will also be in action this weekend at home against Sonning (13:00, Sunday 17th). Any support welcome!!
A date for the diaries – the Christmas Social will be held on 7th December. Individual team socials will be organised, followed by more festivities at the clubhouse. More details to come soon.
