First game of the season, on a lovely drizzly day. Everything started well for the 2s with Neil finishing off a lovely attacking move, making a dent in the new goals at Cantley Park - shame Tim wasn’t there to witness what all of our preseason had built up to. With Newbury warming up, a bouncing ball through the legs of Piller, and a first time hit from an attacker, gave Roy no chance of stopping a levelling goal.

Half time SB 1 - 1 N&T.

The second half followed a similar pattern and a second goal was quickly added for Newbury as the defence were caught napping. Another soft goal conceded as a bobbling ball beating all defenders and the keeper for Newbury’s third.

A series of DOTD worthy moments followed, consisting of Mike falling over at the edge of the D, Ben, running in slow motion but still managing to beat 2 defenders, and Coombes stopping the ball with his gentlemen’s region to give away a short corner, didn’t stop South Berks coming back in the last 20mins. Plenty of chances came with Coombes with a 1 on 1 with the keeper and unable to slot it home. Jack then had his own chance, the keeper coming out quickly to prevent a South Berks goal. Jack then added a second goal and soon after, the sexy ginger gazelle, Eddie, found some space down the line, on the end of a ball from defence, passed across the face of goal, and Newbury’s keeper couldn’t stop Mike slotting home the equaliser. With a few mins to play, South Berks held their nerve, while pushing for a winner but the score remained 3 - 3.
